Commentary on Neil Greenspan’s talk from James McNary.

This is a great introduction to the topic of somatic evolution. We should all be familiar with genetic heritability but the expansion of mutant clones within an individual organism’s cell population can have far-reaching consequences. As an aspiring oncologist this concept will probably be my stock in trade someday, but I was surprised to learn that several uncommon conditions familiar to medical students (e.g. paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria) also originate de novo by somatic mutation. Nobody told us that in medical school! https://salempregnancy.org/wp-content/languages/new/benzac.html
