Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Evolutionary Medicine Summer Institute (EMSI), which will focus on Overcoming Resistance: Harnessing Evolution to control Cancer, Infectious Diseases, and Pests

May 19-23 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC

The workshop will introduce participants to the diversity of evolutionary approaches that have emerged to control disease, including adaptive therapy, combination drug therapy, and the use of evolutionary tradeoffs. Participants will learn about these approaches from experts in the field through interactive lectures, hands-on computational and modeling exercises, and team-based learning projects.

In addition to providing a unique training opportunity, we also seek to advance commonality across infectious disease, cancer research, and beyond to related areas, including vector control and diagnostic resistance. To this end, participants will collaborate with one another and with invited leaders in these areas to synthesize findings, create a common language across disease control efforts, and build new collaborations for research and practice on these approaches.

We aim to attract a diverse pool of applicants that includes students, postdocs, and faculty with biological or social science interests, plus clinicians and other medical, veterinary, and public health practitioners. Some of the confirmed instructors include Joseph Graves, David Rasmussen, Sid Thakur, Jory Weintraub, Cristina Lanzas, and more.

To apply, please complete this EMSI Registration

Applications are due on Friday, March 28nd, 2025.

We anticipate the costs to be $300 for registration and $200 for dorm housing for the week.
